About

Lisbeth Carolina Arias was born in San Salvador, El Salvador. Her mother brought her to the United States at the age of two where they settled in Sanford, North Carolina. 

She grew up with two cultures blended into one. English was spoken at school and Spanish at home. Sewing came into her life in the seventh grade, and for the first time, her mother, a highly-skilled seamstress, could help her with her homework. There was no language barrier when it came to sewing. Now, fashion design is more than a connection Lisbeth has with her mother. She sees it as a bridge that connects people to people no matter where they come from. 

She started Descalza to create a space where people can show their pride and be proud to be from here and from there (Spanish translation: de aquí y de allá). By collaborating with textile artisans in Latino America and local seamstresses in the States, Descalza is able to empower both the communities Lisbeth calls home. Together Descalza creates bold, colorful and made-to-measure statement pieces that tell the world she is proud to be de aquí y de allá.
